ENGLAND: THE OTHER WITHIN

Analysing the English Collections at the Pitt Rivers Museum

Creators of the website

This website was created as a major outcome of the 'Other Within' research project.

The major contributors were Alison Petch, Chris Wingfield, with David Harris and Dan Burt (web designers). Alison Petch was the researcher chiefly charged with ensuring that the website reflected the research and data prepared by the research project and its findings as fully as possible. She prepared much of the raw data, databases and analysis, contributed to the mapping process, and wrote or edited many of the object biographies and themed articles. Chris produced several sections of the website, and (with Alison) cleaned data, for what felt like many months, for the mapping. His interests in the time profile of the collections, folklore and anthropology are clearly reflected in his contributions to the themed articles. David designed the website structure and logo, and contributed to many of the discussions about content. He has been responsible for creating the original mapping used on this site. Dan Burt joined the project team at the end of the project and ensured that the site worked as smoothly as possible (particularly the original mapping). He also worked on alternative mapping systems for the data which are also available on the site.

Other major contributors were also members of the 'Other Within' research project:
Chris Gosden has been particularly interested in the mapping elements of the project.
Hélène La Rue's interest in English objects is reflected in the section of the website called object biographies.
