James Rutland

Career Archaeologist / Trader / Builder

Biography Resident of Taplow, he was a builder by trade who specialised in the restoration of ancient buildings, he was also the parish clerk of Taplow and a keen collector of archaeological remains he came across during his work,. Thanks to Brett Thorn Keeper of Archaeology at the Buckinghamshire County Museum. The bronze axe which was presumably the thing that was in the possession of Mr Rutland was apparently donated to the museum at Aylesbury. He is listed in the 1901 census as James Rutland aged 74 born and living in Taplow, Buckinghamshire and a retired builder [Alison Petch [as part of 'The Other Within' project 2006-9] 23/02/2007]
