Biography Music seller, art dealer and local politician, he was Sheriff and Mayor of Oxford. He appears to be listed in the 1901 census as Thomas W. Taphouse, aged 63, born in Sherfield Green, Hants and living in Bournemouth 'Dealer in works of' [presumably art]. In the Jackson's Oxford Journal of 27.10.1900 he was nominated for the Oxford City Council West Ward and was described as living in Magdalen Street, and being a picture dealer.
