Biography Professor, a Fellow of the Royal Society, worked in brewing industry and then carried on experiments in geology, biology, chemistry and other scientific areas, and owned a farm and vineyard in South Africa (where most of the objects he donated came from) where he made one of the best wines in South Africa of the time.
