Conclusions:
Assuming that one would expect that size of collections from particular places would mirror the size of the settlement, which is not an assumption based either on experience (no other part of the collection makes a similar link between population size and collection size) or logic.
Oxford itself is perhaps over represented in terms of objects / population in the PRM collections, this is hardly surprising as the Museum itself is situated in Oxford, geographical propinquity must make it easier to acquire artefacts. Oxford's domination of Oxfordshire in terms of population has slightly declined between 1901 and 2001 but it is still by far the largest place in Oxfordshire.
Bicester, Banbury and Wantage are slightly over represented in terms of objects / population in the PRM collections
Banbury's importance as a population centre increased greatly between 1901 and 2001.
Abingdon and Witney are under-represented, as are Kidlington, Thame and Wallingford.
