ENGLAND: THE OTHER WITHIN

Analysing the English Collections at the Pitt Rivers Museum

Acquisition events that formed the Oxfordshire collections at the Pitt Rivers Museum

Alison Petch,
Researcher 'The Other Within' project

Rather than looking at those donors who gave most objects, it can be constructive to look at people who had most numbers of contacts with the museum. This is the position with regard to objects from Oxfordshire donated between 1884 and July 2008. [1]

Total number of times Oxfordshire objects were donated to the Museum = 434 instances

Note that the number of instances between 2000-2008 is inflated by items which have been accessioned during that period but 'found unentered' in the museum and actually donated in an earlier decade.

Gendered instances by decade

Donors are usually either male or female or institutional or of unknown gender. This table shows the division, note that in some instances two or more donors of different sex gave in a single instance, the figures therefore do not exactly tally with the figures given in the first table.

Ranking of donors of Oxfordshire objects by instances of donation

Donors who gave only once to the Oxfordshire collections

[1] Note that these statistics were prepared using data accurate at 16 July 2008, this is later information than that used to prepare other Oxfordshire (and England) statistics on this site).
