Model of bellows from Ceylon made by Henry Balfour in 1913 [Plate 1 Coghlan '... Prehistoric Metallurgy' 1951]
Balfour made, or caused to be made, many models of various forms of technology in the Museum. Here is a full list of those items that were accessioned into the Museum's collections. There are likely to be more models that were not accessioned and are either lost, or have not yet been identified. The models were usually made to go into displays in the museum and show particular techniques or technologies.

1912.45.47 Facsimile of old runner skate of wood with a metal bar down the centre of the curved bottom. It is turrned up at the back end and nailed where a slot is cut for it. There are 2 metal pins to attach it to the boot. The chevrons cut in the wood at the end are possibly to mark the left and right skate or owners mark? 1913.8.1 Model of obsolete iron-smelting furnace with bellows of the type employed in ancient Egypt, Ceylon - The model (scale 2 inches = 1 foot) was made by H. Balfour from illustrations given by Koomaraswani in his “Ancient Arts in Ceylon” [this is the ilustration shown on this page]
